CAPTURED BY COLOUR
EXHIBITION BY TRUDI POLLARD
WALYALUP FREMANTLE ARTS CENTRE 2025
About
Captured by Colour was an all-absorbing experience that wrapped you in
the warm embrace of Western Australia’s unique, natural, colour palette.
From seed to textile art, this collection is the living legacy of organic knowledge
acquired over more than seven decades.
The exhibition is the culmination of Trudi Pollard’s extensive work. It is the harvest of wisdom from life’s experience and an introduction to
the magic and mysteries of a ‘dyeing’ art.
Every exhibition or piece of art needs an explanation, a story. In Trudi’s case a
simple artist statement will not suffice. The source of the creativity and
knowledge driving Trudi’s life’s work is to be found during WW2, deep in the
Indonesian jungle. That’s why Captured by Colour the exhibition is just part one
of Trudi’s tribute to colour. Part two is the soon to be released book, Captured
by Colour, Trudi’s gift back to the natural world that shaped and saved her life .
“I feel a sense of responsibility to pass on this baton of knowledge to others
who are following in my footsteps.” Trudi

Natural Dyes
Everything you see in this space has been donated by Mother Nature and masterfully crafted by Trudi into a stunning visual representation of the colours, patterns and harmonies occurring naturally every day in WA. This our reminder to stop and look.

Philosophy
Anyone who has spent any time with Trudi will know that her favourite saying is one by Albert Einstein.
"Creativity is intelligence having fun".
