Land Art - Art on The Scarp.
Helena Pollard
Art on the Scarp: Where nature becomes art! Formerly the Armadale Arts Bush Trail, this is a celebration of sustainable creativity at the foot of the picturesque Perth Hills. Professional artists, local schools and community groups have all used nature as both a canvas and a medium to create striking artworks using exclusively natural materials from the area.
Meander around the trail to explore the works amongst the serene bushlands surrounding the Environmental Centre.
Environmental Centre Triton Crescent Armadale,
I encourage you to visit the Labyrinth. Many have told me that the experience of looking at the labyrinth and walking the labyrinth are two quite different experiences, Delight in the beauty of reconnecting with nature and your self.

‘Walking the Labyrinth to Ourselves 2’
The intertwining of the ‘Labyrinth’ and the ‘Flower of Life’ geometric forms in this piece combines my intention of bringing people back to nature, themselves and to each other.
The labyrinth is formed in a circle which is the universal meaning for wholeness and unity. Walking this labyrinth in silent prayer or meditation connects us to the earth and our spiritual centre. The Seed of Life with its seven interconnected circles, symbolizes the interconnection of all life on Earth and universal existence. This pattern is found in all living things and connects us all.
Modern lifestyles disconnect us from nature, ourselves, and others, hindering humanity. I encourage people to interact with this piece through quiet contemplation and reconnect with both natures’ magnificence and their own spirituality. Through this process we have more capacity to consciously connect with ourselves and our communities in more meaningful ways which then flows to humanity positively.
My hope is that we can bring the blessings that we have experienced during the walking of the labyrinth into our everyday lives and our communities which in turn creates more wholeness for ourselves and the world.

‘Walking the Labyrinth to Ourselves’
The labyrinth has been found in many places around the world since the stone age. It has been universally used in many cultures as a spiritual tool.
The creation of this labyrinth was inspired by a combination of my fascination over many years by the labyrinth being used as a healing and spiritual tool along with my connection with and wonderment of nature.
The labyrinth is formed in a circle which is the universal meaning for wholeness and unity. By walking this circular labyrinth in this natural bush setting while in silent prayer or meditation we are brought closer to the earth and our own spiritual centre. The hope is that we can bring the blessings that we have experienced during the walking of the labyrinth into our everyday lives and our communities which in turn creates more wholeness for ourselves and the world.

‘Quinta Essentia 2 – Connection’. Helena Pollard Textile Artist
‘Quinta Essentia’ means the purest ‘essence’ of a thing.
This work represents the connection between all human beings and nature.
whilst still holding our own unique ‘Quinta Essentia’.
Our individual beauty and uniqueness is expressed in infinite ways through the
living of our own lives. Yet we are closely connected by sharing the human
experience on this beautiful planet. This work explores where we are all similar
and interconnected more than we sometimes realise whilst having this human
experience.
This work explores this individual uniqueness and connection by using the
ancient sacred geometry of the ‘Flower of Life’. The Flower of Life is a beautiful
geometric symbol with nineteen overlapping circles in perfect symmetry
forming an exquisite, flower-like pattern. The symbol consists of many intricate
patterns and several layers that come with many different meanings and
applications in religion, science, mathematics, physics, and much more. It is
said to be one of the very first shapes of ancient geometry and is considered to
represent the interconnectedness of life, the cycle of creation and offers a
blueprint for everything on this planet and even beyond.
A symbol that is traced back to 6,000 years ago and in recent times has been
discovered to be the exact replication of the dividing of cells in humans and all
of nature. A wonderous process that creates all of nature. Planet Gaia (Earth)
truly is Mother Earth.

‘Quinta Essentia’
Trudi and Helena Pollard. Mother and Daughter Fibre Artists.
‘Quinta Essentia’ means the purest ‘essence’ of a thing.
This work is formed from the idea of the unique perfection of each individual living thing and their essence being born and created on earth. The ‘essence’ of a person, animal, plant, rock, water, air and place is unique in the same way that a scent is unique to a flower which reaches far and wide.
Simply explained the nest and egg represent the beginning of life which is a significant event for us all. The Western Australian local Guinea flower with its 5 heart shaped petals represents 5 human values through which we can live our lives and exist in harmony on this planet. These petals signify Love, Truth, Peace, Right Conduct and Non-Violence.
How we live and have touched people and nature during our lives is felt far and wide without us even realising. Therefore, you will find the centre/essence of this flower spreading out from this work.
Gaia or Mother Earth has her own essence and provides us with many gifts to sustain our existence and therefore the opportunity to experience our unique essence on this earth.
This work is a celebration and acknowledgement of our unique selves and the signature essence that exists within all living things on Mother Gaia with the essence reaching far and wide whilst a person exists on this planet and beyond!
